I Know It Sounds Twisted, But I've Been Faking My Own Self-Doubt... Hear Me Out.
Self-doubt is often seen as a natural part of life, a hurdle that we all must overcome on our path to success. But what if I told you that, for the past few months, I’ve been faking my own self-doubt? Yes, you read that right. It sounds twisted, I know, but hear me out.
We’ve all heard the phrase “fake it till you make it.” It’s a mantra meant to encourage us to project confidence, even when we don’t fully feel it. But what happens when you start faking the opposite—when you pretend to doubt yourself, even when you’re brimming with clarity and direction?
For a long time, I’ve found myself slipping into this strange habit of downplaying my confidence, especially in situations where it felt safer to blend in rather than stand out. In conversations, particularly those where I’m not the recognised expert, I’ve noticed myself hesitating and holding back and generally acting as though I’m unsure of my own knowledge and intuition.
Why We Dim Our Light
Why do we do this? Why do we feel the need to dim our light, to mask our knowing, and to pretend that we’re unsure? For me, it was about fitting in, about not wanting to come across as a “know-it-all” or be perceived as too assertive. There’s a comfort in self-doubt that allows us to stay small, to not ruffle any feathers, and to keep the peace.
But this comfort is a trap. The more we indulge in it, the more we betray our true selves and the clarity that we’ve worked so hard to achieve.
A Shift in Perspective
Recently, I had a conversation with some new friends, and as we shared our thoughts and feelings, I realised just how common this experience is. Many of us have been faking self-doubt, whether in our careers, our relationships, or our personal growth, all to avoid standing out or making others uncomfortable.
It was a wake-up call. Here I was, holding back my own light, my own wisdom, just to fit into a mold that didn’t serve me. This realisation hit me hard: I don’t need to fake doubt to protect myself or others.
I’m ready to own my knowing, to embrace the clarity that feels right to me, and to trust my intuition fully.
Owning My Knowing
Stepping into my power means shedding the mask of self-doubt and letting my light shine unapologetically. It’s about acknowledging that I do have the answers, that I am clear in my direction, and that I don’t need to play small to make others comfortable.
This year, I’ve made a conscious effort to reconnect with my intuition, even when it doesn’t make logical sense. My intuition has been my compass, leading me on a path that feels right, even if it’s not always the path others would choose. And you know what? I’m okay with that.
The Power of Intuition
My Human Design energy is a projector, and my authority is mental - Mental projector. I’ve learned that my authority comes from my mind—specifically, from a deep inner knowing that just “gets” things, even without all the facts and figures. This knowing isn’t something I can always explain, but it’s something I’ve come to trust deeply.
And this trust has been transformative. It’s like jumping on a travelator at the airport—you’re still walking, still putting in the effort, but you’re moving faster and more smoothly toward your destination than those who are dodging people on their way to the terminal. Trusting my intuition has put me on that travelator in life, helping me navigate obstacles with ease and flow.
Letting Go of the Mask
So, I’m done faking it. I’m done pretending that I don’t know what I know, that I’m unsure when I’m actually clear. If that means being labeled as bossy or a know-it-all, so be it. I’d rather that than hide behind a mask that doesn’t fit anymore.
If you’ve found yourself doing the same—downplaying your intuition, second-guessing your knowing, or faking self-doubt to fit in—I encourage you to let go of that mask. Embrace your light, trust your inner voice, and step confidently into your own power. Because without clarity, we can easily fall into the trap of living someone else’s life. And I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to live my own.
Final Thoughts
Self-doubt may be common, but it’s not something we need to carry with us, especially when we’re clear about who we are and where we’re going. It’s time to stop dimming our light and start living in full alignment with our true selves.
So, if this resonates with you, I’m here to tell you that you’re not alone. Let’s shed that mask of self-doubt together and step boldly into the clarity that’s been waiting for us all along.
With love & graditude,
Claire xx
