The secret to creating a vision board that actually works

Welcome back, lovely readers! If you’ve been following along, you know we’re on a journey to design your ideal life in 2025. Today, we’re diving into step three, and I’m thrilled because this is one of my absolute favorites—creating a vision board.

As I sit down to write this, we’re just over a week out from Christmas, and wow, can you feel that spicy energy in the air? It’s the end-of-year rush, and like so many of you, I’ve been feeling the burn. Life has been a little chaotic lately—so chaotic, in fact, that the practices I know help me thrive have been the first to slip. Isn’t it funny how we let go of the things that ground us right when we need them most?

That’s why I’m taking a much-needed break. I’m heading to Sri Lanka for two weeks with my husband and a couple of friends. It’s a time to rest, reset, and reconnect with myself so I can step into 2025 feeling refreshed and ready.

But enough about me—let’s talk about you and how a vision board can transform your year ahead.

Why Vision Boards?

A vision board is more than just a collage of pretty pictures; it’s a tool for clarity and manifestation. I love creating vision boards because they give us a visual representation of what we want for ourselves. In some cases, it’s the first time we see what we truly desire.

Just as I use vision boards with clients in interior design to articulate their dream spaces, you can use one to design your ideal life. Often, words can’t fully capture what we want—it’s a vibe, a feeling, a mood. A vision board brings that to life and serves as a daily reminder of what we’re working toward.

How to Create a Vision Board

Here’s how I recommend approaching your vision board for 2025:

  1. Set a Time Frame.
Decide the time period your vision board will cover. For most of us, a calendar year is perfect. So, what better time than now!

  2. Define What’s Important.
Reflect on the areas of your life you want to focus on—your “rooms.” Is it your career, relationships, health, or finances etc? Or perhaps a combination of all?

  3. Go Analog.
While digital tools like Pinterest and Canva are great, I encourage you to create your vision board physically. Cut out images, print photos, and paste them onto paper. When we step away from devices, we’re free from distractions and algorithms. This allows our energy and intuition to guide us to what truly resonates rather than technology leading the way.

  4. Focus on the Journey.
We often pin the end goal on our vision boards, but the real magic happens when we rehearse the journey. For instance, if running a marathon is your goal (it’s on my 2025 board, by the way!), don’t just visualise crossing the finish line. Picture the early-morning runs, the sense of accomplishment after a tough training session, and the person you’ll become along the way.

  5. Check Your ‘Shoulds.’
Make sure everything on your board sparks genuine joy for you. If it feels like an external expectation or a “should,” leave it off. “Your vision board should reflect the life you want, not what others expect of you,” I always emphasize.

Bringing Your Vision to Life

Creating the board is just the first step. To bring your vision off the page and into reality, you’ll need to actively engage with it. Place it somewhere you’ll see it daily, and use it as a tool to reconnect with your goals, especially when life gets busy.
