Has the daily grind dulled your spark? How to Find Fulfilment at Work
Are you feeling stuck in a rut at work, yearning for that spark of motivation and energy to ignite your passion once again? If so, you're not alone. Many of us find ourselves at a crossroads where the daily grind feels more like a monotonous chore than a source of inspiration.
I recently asked the amilliâ studio community what are of your life your feeling unfulfilled only to find that so many of you are feeling demotivated and disengaged at work. One of our community members, in particular, caught my attention with her query. She writes, "Hey, Claire, I'm 36 and made a career change from nursing about six years ago. I find myself in a similar rut, feeling unmotivated and bored at work. My theme for 2024 is vitality. While I have a plan for my wellness, I'm feeling overwhelmed about how to infuse vitality into my work. Help!"
I can totally empathise with your situation. Feeling stuck in a cycle of unfulfillment and overwhelm is tough—I've been there myself. But fear not, because today, I'm here to offer some actionable steps to help you navigate through this challenging phase.
Firstly, I love your theme for 2024—vitality. Having a guiding theme can serve as a powerful lens through which you filter your decisions. Vitality encompasses feeling essential and energetic, both in your work and wellness pursuits. It's crucial to identify ‘vitality’ (or your personal theme/feeling) as your destination, like setting a final destination in your GPS before heading off on a road trip. The directions you take along the way will become clear because if they get you closer to vitality you know your on the right path, if they take you away from your theme you know you need to course correct.
Now, let's delve into understanding why you've lost motivation at work. Take some time to tap into your intuition and reflect on what has changed to put you in a place of feeling demotivation and boredom. Asking yourself the question ‘why am i feeling demotivated at work’ before bedtime can help your subconscious unravel insights overnight. Then, in the morning, grab a journal and jot down your reflections and feelings about your work situation.
Next, create a "more and less" list. At the end of each day for 2 weeks, note down activities that light you up, the ones you want to do more of and those that feel unfulfilling, that you want to do less of. This exercise extends beyond work-related tasks and encompasses your entire day. Look for patterns and unexpected insights that may guide you towards reclaiming passion and motivation within your day.
Remember, the antidote to overwhelm is action. Start with small, incremental changes—marginal gains—that will gradually steer you towards your goal of vitality. Sir Dave Brailsford's philosophy of focusing on marginal gains - one percent improvements is a great example to follow. Break down your journey into manageable steps and celebrate each tiny victory along the way.
As you embark on this journey, keep in mind the "seven-year itch." It's common to reassess our paths around this time, so embrace this opportunity for growth and exploration.
I hope these tips resonate with you and provide a roadmap for reigniting your work vitality. If you have more questions or topics you'd like me to explore, send me a DM on Instagram @amillastudio —I'd love to hear from you!
